Testimonials

I have just had the best three days fishing of my life. I’ve fished in Assynt for nearly four decades so know the fishing very well or so I thought. Stewart took one inexperienced and one novice salmon fly fishers (we are both experienced trout fishers) and had us covering pools with ease. Pools in some cases that I would never have considered fishing let alone been able to cover or known held fish. One or two simple tips and observations had us casting well in almost any situation.

The next day we were fishing from sea cliffs and rocky marks in places that would have been near impossible to find ways into or be safe in without his expert guidance.
I would never have believed I could cast a full #9 shooting head and all its running line to full turn over with big heavy sea flys but I did on many occasions so that rules out fluke.
His instructions on double hauling demistified it for me and made it so simple.

The best day was on the tiny highland burns (that I always walk past on the way to a hill loch) for small and relatively large wild Brown trout. Stewart’s knowledge and passion for these burns and trout really shines out. He took us to places and showed us how to winkle many many fish from the most unlikely pools, then provided fantastic brew breaks and tales of the local geology, flora and fauna in a relaxed, funny and very informative manner.

If you ever wonder why you need a guide I urge you to give Stewart a try. A day or a few days in his company will give you the answerOTyour fishing will improve but more importantly you will discover places to fish that would take weeks upon weeks to find yourself. I can’t recommend him enough and have already booked up for later in this year.

We just want to thank you for the fantastic morning we had with you.  From booking to meeting up, everything was seamless.
My husband and I were doing the “NC500” as part of our Silver Wedding Anniversary- and as he had always wanted to fly fish in Scotland, we found your Facebook page, and was fortunate that you had space to fit us in.
The morning we met you, I was so nervous, and nearly sent hubby along on his own, but I’m so very glad I did come.
Your warm, friendly welcome, followed by a brief walk out to a small loch, whilst all the time informing us of health and safety, geology, sphagnum moss and long ago clan battles that never happened!
Your encouragement of my husband as he had previously fly fished was much appreciated and new tips and skills were picked up. To watch my wonderful husband in a loch, fly fishing was so thrilling.
As for me, your tuition and patience was incredible. My nerves soon dissipated as I enjoyed each improved “roll cast” and “stalked” the banks.
The break for coffee and wonderful homemade spruce tip shortbread was perfect. The trip was especially enhanced by ‘Geo’ – if Carlsberg made dogs, they’d probably by him!
Your absolute joy when I asked how I would know if I’d caught a fish, for you to reply “you’ll know” to then seeing my rod bend and my first ever caught fish, and a wild brown trout no less, was wonderful to experience.
So thank you again, for making our 25th Wedding Anniversary a wonderful day, for the education and banter and for sharing the joy of fly fishing with us.

What can I say… we all set off for a weeks fishing with Stewart to  Assynt and what a week it was!

We battled every weather imaginable but stuck with it and got our rewards in the end. By the grace of God Stewart had many a trick up his sleeve to ensure that we got the fishing experience of a lifetime.

Stewart and his family made us feel very welcome for the time that we was there and I suppose special thanks has to go to his family for allowing him to spend the time with us on the fly fishing safari.

For those that have never been to Assynt it is definitely one for the bucket list. It is crazy to think that people would go abroad for fantastic scenery and fishing when in actual fact it’s available just at the north – west tip of Scotland.

Stewart focused very hard on ensuring that all of us from down south had a week to remember….. that is exactly what we had.

Once again a special thanks to Stewart putting in the effort to make it a great week…. no doubt we will be back

Me and my brother, we absolutely thoroughly enjoyed our fishing trip with Stewart. The greatest thing about this trip was that it wasn’t just about the fishing or the actual catching of fish itself, but it is a fishing experience rather, or actually an experience of Assynt, which was exactly the thing I hoped it would be.

We both did get a fish (me and my brother) but I wouldn’t have minded if we wouldn’t have caught any, because the experience of walking around in the beautiful landscape combined with a lesson in the history, culture and nature of Assynt makes it a fantastic day out in the wilds of this special part of Scotland. I enjoyed every minute and I would definitely recommend this to everyone! Thanks again Stewart for a great and very rememberable day!

We had a great time fishing with Stewart and his son, Corwin. They were absolutely brilliant with our nine year-old sons, who both caught a brown trout. The scenery was stunning and Stewart told us some spooky stories about some of the ruined castles in the local area. To top it all off, we were treated to some delicious home baking courtesy of Stewart’s wife. Overall, a highly memorable and enjoyable afternoon!
Thanks again!

Stewart combines passion with superb local knowledge for fishing and is an excellent coach.

I had two of my most memorable days fishing the lochs in Assynt with him and caught my first wild ‘Brownie’ over 1lb.

I’d recommend him to anyone considering fishing this fantastic area I’ll certainly be back again next year.

Thanks once again for such a memorable day. I would have been happy just to catch one of those lunkers* considering the horrible conditions encountered at the start but your expertise of the area and timings paid dividends.
